INX International to showcase solutions
After successfully introducing several new technological platforms a year ago at Print '09, INX International Ink Co. and INX Digital International will advance its efforts to another level this year when Graph Expo is held in Chicago, October 3-6. The line of EVOLVE Advanced Digital Solutions will be joined by new inks, equipment and systems, in addition to educational seminars all four days at McCormick Place.
A year ago INX previewed a prototype of the CP100 UV digital can printer, which now headlines the EVOLVE Advanced Digital Solutions brand line. Designed for short-run cylindrical printing and packaging work, the CP100 produces brilliantly printed items such as aluminum cans and water bottles in minutes. The cost effectiveness of this printer makes it an interesting consideration for any printer to create specialized packaging and a new revenue stream.
The CP100 digital printer is a key part of integrated systems technology platforms developed by INX Digital to provide customer-driven solutions for inkjet printing, production workflows and material handling. Other unique EVOLVE products include the MD660 UV digital flatbed printer and NW100 UV narrow web printer. The brand also features solvent, UV-LED-curable, aqueous and thermal and oil piezo inks for printing on vinyl, paper, corrugated, plastic, fabric, glass, metal and other exotic substrates.

Toshiba starts Greater MPS Dealer Training
Toshiba America Business Solutions Inc. (TABS) recently wrapped-up an entirely new series of interactive conferences designed to provide office technology dealers with the tools and knowledge to help them succeed in selling and implementing Managed Print and Professional Services (MPS and PS). LEAD 2010, which stands for Learn, Engage, Act, and Deliver, was held at four regional locations this summer, including Washington D.C., Dallas, Irvine, Calif., and Chicago, and drew nearly 700 attendees from all across the country.
Bill Melo, vice president of marketing, services and solutions for TABS, opened each conference by describing the "new normal" in today's business world and the office technology industry more specifically. "When you define yourselves as MPS providers, rather than copier dealers, your market of opportunity quadruples," Melo said, referencing in part the fact that for every dollar spent on A3 technology, customers spend three dollars on A4(1). After making the compelling argument for why successful dealers must have an MPS program, presentations were then given by representatives from Hewlett-Packard, Lexmark, Strategy Development, Drivve and Capella, and other Toshiba partners.
Multi-function devices (MFDs) and document security, which Toshiba has been promoting to dealers for years as an essential element of a successful MPS program, was a major focus of the conference. While it was mentioned in most of the twenty education sessions that made up each conference's three course tracks -- sales, service, and consulting -- Toshiba also held an additional session specifically on security featuring representatives from Digital Copier Security Inc., who recently became well-known in the industry for their participation in the "CBS Evening News with Katie Couric" investigative report earlier this year on copier hard drive security.

It only seems like yesterday that Canon released the imageRUNNER 5000 black and white photocopier/printer, a multifunction printer that was one of the first to introduce high quality and high speed scanning, came with an impressive, highly intuitive user display and offered unusually broad media handling. But now, in what has to be Canon’s most prolific period in copier innovation to date, the company has decided to up its game yet another notch, releasing the stunning imageRUNNER Advance 6000 series. For those organisations looking for the very best in medium duty mono printing and now with colour scanning and a vast array of other improvements as standard, the Canon imageRUNNER Advance 6000 series will be the most obvious choice.

Canon U.S.A. Announces Two New PIXMA Printers
Canon U.S.A., Inc. announced the addition of the new PIXMA MG8120 and PIXMA MG6120 Wireless Photo All-In-One (AIO) printers with a new, ground-breaking Intelligent Touch System improving the overall user experience with new technologies that have not been seen before in desktop printers. In addition to the new Intelligent Touch System, these PIXMA printers feature Full High Definition (HD) Movie Print(2)for capturing memorable moments and other upgrades which will improve functionality and print quality. The addition of these printers further solidifies Canon's commitment to providing award-winning, innovative products which limit the amount of time it takes to complete a project while maintaining the high quality users have come to expect from a Canon PIXMA product.
Designed with ease-of-use in mind, the new Intelligent Touch System is a game changer for overall printer usability. Consumers will find it easier and quicker than ever to navigate through menus and perform everyday tasks with back-lit touch sensitive buttons and a new light guidance system eliminating buttons not in use, thus reducing opportunities for mistakes. In the early onset of touch technology, many products utilized resistive touch technology which relied on pressure being applied to the touch surface in order to get the desired result. The new Canon PIXMA MG8120 and MG6120 Wireless(1) Photo AIO printers use the fast and responsive capacitive touch technology which picks up on electricity in the users body when a finger glides across the touch surface designed to provide for seamless navigation through menus and other desired commands. This same technology is utilized in many of today's popular smartphones and when combined with the light guidance system, consumers will be surprised at how tasks can be accomplished quicker than ever before. The new Full HD Movie Print provides consumers with a new alternative for preserving many of those memorable moments which in the past may have been rather challenging to catch. When using compatible HD Canon EOS and PowerShot Digital cameras, consumers can print individual frames of movies captured from scenes such as a child blowing out a candle on their first birthday cake or of a couple dancing on their wedding day. The days of missing those special moments can now be considered a thing of the past. With Full HD Movie Print consumers can be confident the scenes captured on a camera whether through still or movie capabilities, can be shared for years to come.(3)
"Canon has always been at the forefront of providing consumers with products that are not only of high quality but easy to use with an innovative design and user-interface," said Yuichi Ishizuka, executive vice president and general manager, Consumer Imaging Group, Canon U.S.A. "The addition of the new Intelligent Touch System along with Full HD Movie Print will provide consumers with a unique user experience which further separates Canon from the competition."
The new Canon PIXMA MG8120 and PIXMA MG6120 Wireless Photo AIO printers will also feature the recently upgraded versions of Auto Photo Fix II, Easy-PhotoPrint EX and Easy-WebPrint EX to further enhance the printing experience. Auto Photo Fix II, which helps correct common photo errors, has been improved with enhanced light-source recognition and color-cast correction resulting in an increase in the overall image quality of printed images. With Easy-PhotoPrint EX images can now be searched for and used from Flickr providing further flexibility to consumers interested in printing high-quality photos, albums and stickers from computers without having to launch an internet browser.

Zebra Technologies Announces the RXi4 RFID Printer/Encoder
Zebra Technologies Corporation announced its first high performance RFID printer/encoder designed to address the growing RFID market for high-volume item-level tagging. The R110Xi4 streamlines business improvement and supply-chain management applications such as item-level tracking, asset tracking, inventory management and more across retail, manufacturing, healthcare and distribution channels.
According to a recent survey from VDC, average corporate investment in RFID solutions is expected to grow by more than 200 percent over the next year to nearly $7 million in 2011. This increase can be attributed to spillover demand from retail to manufacturing, healthcare and other industries for item-level tracking to better monitor inventory levels and track assets, noted Ricci.
Building on more than 10 years of industry expertise in RFID printing/encoding, Zebra's RXi4 overcomes one of the largest barriers to RFID adoption -- media cost. The RXi4 benefits many organizations by reducing RFID media costs by up to 10 percent. By providing a printer/encoder with Zebra's exclusive patent-pending Adaptive Encoding technology, the RXi4 can detect the RFID inlay position within the label and automatically configure the printer/encoder without having to manually calibrate for the inlay -- ensuring tag accuracy and saving time and money.

Disposable printer
The Instant Cartridge Printer, by designers Yuexun Chen and Chia-Chen Hsiao, is a striking concept that is not only a neat idea, but makes you think about just how much your printer really does for you, acting as a middleman between you and ink cartridges. Instead of buying a new ink cartridge when your printer runs out of ink, the cartridge itself is the printer.

Making the Grade With Cartridge World
The recession continues to take an extraordinary toll on school systems as sweeping budget cuts are enacted in cities and states nationwide. Cartridge World, a printer cartridge retailer, is looking to help schools combat these serious challenges by encouraging them to reuse their printer cartridges rather than buying new.
With 650 locations throughout North America, Cartridge World has struck a chord with schools nationwide for its ability to save significant money on printer cartridge costs. Besides being an affordable alternative for schools to stay "ahead of the curve" when it comes to increasing budget constraints, reusing printer cartridges also teaches students the importance of reusing and recycling to protect the environment. In North America alone, more than 350 million cartridges are discarded in landfills, and that number increases by 12 percent annually. Switching to remanufactured cartridges not only keeps empty cartridges out of the landfills, but also reduces carbon emissions by an estimated one million pounds per year and conserves half a gallon of oil for each laser cartridge that is reused and recycled.
